A Cleveland family is devastated as they mourn the loss of one of their own after a terrible accident.

Janet Reyes, 21, was an innocent victim of reckless car thieves.

The young woman had traveled from Arizona to visit her family, never suspecting that within hours of arriving in Cleveland, Ohio her life would be tragically cut short.

A group of teenagers stole a Kia and, during a high-speed pursuit, crashed violently into the car in which ‘Jay’, as Reyes was affectionately known, was traveling.

The tragedy of Janet Reyes’ death

Reyes’ car was crushed beyond recognition by the force of the collision at the intersection of Pearl and State, according to police.

Jay was not the sole victim. A nine-year-old boy and his friend, who were passengers, were severely hurt and remain hospitalized with head injuries.

«A beautiful soul gone too soon,» laments Gardenia Calderon, Janet’s friend who started a GoFundMe campaign.

Calderón describes her friend as «a beautiful, loving, and free-spirited person who would light up any room she entered.»

The campaign’s description reads: «She loved and lived her life with no regrets and never took no for an answer.»

The police stated that the passengers in the Kia were also taken to the hospital, but they were not identified. It was only reported that they appeared to be teenagers.

So far, investigators have not made any arrests.

They only pointed out that thefts of Kias and Hyundais have been on the rise in Cleveland, contributing to various other crimes.
