An autopsy showed a woman killed at her home in Maine was stabbed 484 times, according to newly unsealed court documents. According to the authorities, the crime was carried out by a couple who were looking to steal Xanax pills and cash from the victim.
Kimberly Neptune, 43, of Perry, had hundreds of injuries to her legs, stomach, neck and head when her brother discovered her body wrapped in a blanket, state police detective Lawrence Anderson wrote in the affidavit.
Who committed the frenzied murder?
Donnell J. Dana, 39, and Kailie A. Brackett, 38, were charged with murder on April 29, just over a week after Neptune’s brutal murder. According to the New York Post, Dana had previously lived with Neptune, but moved out of her house in 2021. Brackett, who has a son with Dana, also knew Neptune.
The affidavit that was unsealed last Wednesday indicated that Brackett had accused Neptune of stealing money and that Dana and Brackett planned to steal 300 Xanax pills and cash from her, The Associated Press reported.
Suspects described the murder
According to the affidavit, just one day after Neptune’s brutal stabbing murder, Bracket allegedly told a witness about how the woman had been killed. “Brackett was talking to anyone who would listen to him,” the affidavit said.
According to authorities, Brackett told the witness that he called Neptune on April 20 and asked her to meet the next day. Later, when Brackett and Dana arrived at Kimberly Neptune’s apartment, the man allegedly attacked the victim, while the woman ransacked Neptune’s apartment for drugs, cash and jewelry.
