Since then, more questionable comments made by the Martínez siblings have come to light.
One incident involved the youngest member of the group — Yahritza — who asked an interviewer not to speak to her in Spanish.
As one of her brothers has explained, there’s a reason why they prefer to be interviewed in English.
Yahritza doesn’t like to speak Spanish
A TikTok video shows the young singer asking an interviewer not speak to her in Spanish.
In the video, you can see the member of Yahritza y Su Esencia talking to another woman.
The most striking thing is when Yahritza asks the interviewer to stop speaking Spanish.
«Don’t talk to me in Spanish, don’t talk to me in Spanish, please,» said the singer.
Yahritza y Su Esencia asked an interviewer to speak English
“You sing in Spanish… you can chat in Spanish…» says the young woman.
«Well, I’m going to speak in Spanish when I want and speak English when I want,» replied the singer.
The clip went viral again after the group offered a public apology.
The group is trying to make amends
In a recent interview with Pepe Garza, the singers ate typical Mexican food.
They enjoyed traditional fare such as beans, corn tortillas, roast meat and rice.
In the interview, they explained that in their daily lives in the US, they speak more English than Spanish.
They stressed that they don’t have anything against speaking Spanish, it simply depends on the circumstances.
Yahritza y Su Ensencia prefers Spanglish
When asked about the language issue, Armando Martínez defended the trio of siblings.
«Well, I say that it’s normal here to mix words,» he told Pepe Garza.
«Spanglish, because you have to speak English at school and then at home and you don’t speak enough Spanish to speak it well,» he said.
«Just as if we lived in a house where Spanish is always spoken,» said the member of Yahritza y Su Esencia.
Was their explanation good enough?
It seems that Armando Martínez didn’t explain himself well. What was he trying to say?
Some commented on the video that they don’t understand what he’s trying to say about speaking Spanish and English.
«Yes, he does not speak Spanish, nothing was understood,» someone commented on the YouTube video.
«Well, you better learn Spanish, I didn’t understand anything you said,» wrote another user.
Does the group love Mexico?
Pepe Garza told them that the comment they made about Mexico was taken as an insult made it sound like they dislike the country.
They said that wasn’t the case but admitted that they don’t know much about Mexican culture because they were raised in the US.
«We did not have the joy of going there as children, it was something new for us going to Mexico,» said Armando.
Mexicans don’t forgive them
Some Mexicans made it clear that they will not forgive the group: «The definition of humility is having the quality of a person, not the b**** they said.»
«I am proudly Mexican,» said another.
«It was a pleasure not to meet you but we Mexicans are also delicate, good luck in your country,» another commented.
