A series of intense storms threatens to wreak havoc on the East Coast of the United States, according to AccuWeather meteorologists.

Following an initial storm bringing heavy rains and travel disruptions this Thursday, meteorologists highlighted the impacts expected.

Furthermore, a second storm is looming, promising further complications in the form of localized flooding and, in some areas, even snow.

Given the inclement weather, experts spared no details regarding the anticipated «damage» in the coming hours and the precautions that should be considered.

What will happen with the storm?

The first of these storms will continue its path across the region until Thursday, with the most intense band of rainfall.

This effect will extend from the Carolinas to the southeastern New England, where downpours will persist and could lead to travel delays.

Drivers are urged to take precautions and consider alternative routes, as water levels may quickly rise in flooded areas.

Additionally, between 1 and 4 inches of rain are expected to fall within a 12 to 18-hour period in this wide area, potentially resulting in urban flooding.

Impacts on travel?

In addition to the rain, the combination of downpours, low clouds, and fog is likely to cause delays in air travel.

This could occur at major airports from Atlanta to Boston possibly until the early hours of Thursday.

However, Friday may bring a temporary relief, offering a more favorable day for travel and outdoor activities along the entire East Coast.

But this respite will be short-lived, as another storm is quickly approaching from the central states, accumulating moisture and strength.

What will happen on the weekend?

According to AccuWeather, the onset of this second storm on Saturday may commence with a brief period of dry weather in eastern and northern New England.

This temporary respite could lead to receding waters and an improvement in the situation, creating the impression of warmer conditions in certain areas of the state.

However, the system is poised to exploit the moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, potentially causing further torrential rains along the coast.

Furthermore, a wedge of cold air in eastern Canada is forecasted to create favorable conditions for snow in northern New England on Saturday night.

Danger to the northeast of the United States?

These weather conditions could make travel hazardous, with heavy rains reducing visibility and creating puddles on the roads.

The second part of this storm series will move southeastward from western Ontario towards the Great Lakes during Saturday night and Sunday, according to AccuWeather.

Although warm road conditions are likely to prevent major issues with snowmelt in snow areas, caution is advised for drivers.

Heavy rains are expected to diminish in the Mid-Atlantic by Sunday morning, advancing towards southern New England in the afternoon as dry air arrives from the west.
