U.S. President Joe Biden embarked on a three-day tour of Nevada, Arizona and Texas on Tuesday to court the Latino electorate.

Given that Hispanics were key to his 2020 victory over Republican Donald Trump, the Latino vote could determine the outcome of the November elections.

The first stop was Reno, Nevada, where Biden visited one of the Democratic Party’s headquarters, according to EFE.

At the Democratic headquarters in Reno, the walls were covered with posters featuring the names of Biden and his running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Addressing around fifty supporters, Biden highlighted his policies for the middle class, including measures to reduce the cost of medications such as insulin, with a maximum price of $35 per month.

He also emphasized expanding healthcare coverage, combating climate change, and creating jobs.

Biden contrasted his policies with those of Trump, his opponent in the November election, according to EFE.

Biden particularly criticized comments made by Trump at a rally in February, where he stated that if it were up to him, he would allow Russia to «do whatever they wanted,» including attacking NATO members.

The event took place in a small room where Biden spoke into a microphone, took questions from attendees and was interrupted several times by children.

After visiting Reno, Biden headed to Las Vegas to deliver a speech on his economic policies.

Later, the president headed to South Phoenix, Arizona, a predominantly Latino area where many residents are of Mexican origin.

In South Phoenix, Biden visited a Mexican restaurant called El Portal and officially launched the Latinos con Biden-Harris initiative, a national program aimed at mobilizing Hispanic voters across the country.

This program will consist of both online and in-person events to recruit volunteers who will canvass door-to-door during the elections.

The objective is to encourage voters to talk to family and friends about the elections, according to EFE.

«You are the reason why, in large part, I defeated Donald Trump. I need you,» said the president in English. He recalled his humble origins, criticized his opponent for «only caring about the rich,» and advocated for raising taxes on billionaires.

The stops in Arizona and Nevada are particularly significant as they are swing states, where Biden narrowly defeated Trump in 2020. Both states could determine who will be the next occupant of the White House.

The Hispanic vote could be the deciding factor between the two candidates. According to data from the Pew Research Center, Hispanics represent 25% of the electorate in Arizona and 22% in Nevada.

Due to this immense importance, Biden granted interviews to Univision and Nueva Network, where he contrasted his policies with Trump’s harsh anti-immigrant rhetoric.

Trump has repeatedly stated that migrants «poison» the blood of the United States and does not rule out separating families at the border again. «We have to stop this guy. We cannot allow this to happen. We are a nation of immigrants,» Biden declared on Univision.

After visiting Nevada and Arizona on Tuesday, Biden will travel to Texas, where he will have several campaign events and fundraising activities on Wednesday and Thursday, according to EFE.

Texas is considered a stronghold for the Republican Party, but Democrats have been trying for years to turn it into a swing state by leveraging its growing demographic diversity.

In the state of Texas, Latinos already represent 33% of the electorate. According to the Pew Research Center, it is estimated that 36.2 million Hispanics will be eligible to vote this year, compared to 32.3 million in 2020.

In the 2020 elections, 38% of Latinos supported Trump, ten points higher than in 2016, but the majority (59%) opted for the current occupant of the White House, according to Pew.
