José Alfredo Uzeta is charged with sexual assault and running an illegal dental practice (PHOTOS)

José Alfredo Uzeta, 51, an immigrant from Mexico, was arrested in Houston, Texas, for practicing dentistry without a license.

His illegal dental practice came to light when detectives were investigating a sexual assault allegation.

Detectives went to Uzeta’s office after a woman accused him of touching her inappropriately.

To make matter worse, José Alfredo Uzeta is undocumented and will have to deal with immigration authorities as well.

José Alfredo Uzeta’s partner Alfredo Alanís Flores was also arrested for practicing dentistry without a license.

The case is complicated for both men but especially for Uzeta who is facing multiple charges.

Judge Colleen Gaido of the 337th Criminal District Court in Harris County will be overseeing his case.

Detectives from the Special Victims Division of the Houston Police Department (HPD) are still investigating.

The details of the sexual assault have not been released to protect the victim’s privacy.

However, the woman’s complaint was filed with HPD’s Special Victims Division and they began investigating the case.

On Monday, December 4, 2023, HPD detectives went to the dental office of José Alfredo Uzeta located at 6260 Westpark Drive.

The detectives discovered that the alleged dentists, José Alfredo Uzeta and Alfredo Alanís Flores, offered various services, including braces.

The men aren’t registered with the Texas Board of Dental Examiners

The HPD Special Victims Division was struck by the fact that José Alfredo Uzeta and Alfredo Alanís Flores did not have their licenses displayed in the office.

The officers consulted with the Texas Board of Dental Examiners to find out if Alfredo Uzeta and Alfredo Aeanís Flores could legally practice dentistry.

From their office in Austin, the Texas Board of Dental Examiners informed the HPD that they had never had dentists registered under either of those names.

That same Monday afternoon, Uzeta and Flores were taken to the Harris County jail.

Now the police need help from the community

When HPD detectives reviewed the backgrounds of José Alfredo Uzeta and Alfredo Alanís Flores, they discovered the immigration status of the first defendant.

The men did not advertise their practice and only got new patients through word of mouth.

The suspects allegedly charged $3,000 for a set of braces.

The HPD believes that perhaps there are more victims and they are asking anyone with information to report it to the Houston Crime Stoppers at 713.222.8477.

One of the most surprising details in the case against José Alfredo Uzeta is that he had been practicing in Houston for 20 years.

During his first appearance before the judge, the defendant admitted that he had been practicing without a license the entire time. Now he also faces sexual assault charges.

In addition, he is undocumented.

Uzeta said that he himself made molds and retainers for his patients’ braces and that he met Alfredo Alanís Flores at dental school in Mexico.
