Two brothers in Texas, ages 17 and 18, have been charged with the murder of their stepfather for allegedly abusing the boys’ 9-year-old sister, local authorities said Wednesday, January 26. A friend of the teens was also charged in the case, reported EFE.
Police from Pharr, a city located in the Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas, explained Wednesday at a press conference that Alejandro Treviño, 18, his brother Christian Treviño, 17, and a friend of the brothers, Juan Eduardo Meléndez, 18, were arrested for the death of Gabriel Quintanilla.
Did young men commit an atrocity out of revenge?
The body of the victim, who was the stepfather of the Treviño brothers, was found in a field on January 20. Pharr Police Chief Andy Harvey said at a news conference that the teenage suspects allegedly beat Quintanilla to death after hearing that the man had allegedly sexually abused their 9-year-old sister.
The three teens are charged with aggravated family violence and involvement in organized criminal activity. Christian Treviño and Meléndez were also charged with murder. Filed Under: Hispanic youth accused of murdering his stepfather.
They threw the body in the least expected place
At the time of the crime, the three suspects left the scene of the fight and changed vehicles, then returned to search for the victim. Police said the three found Gabriel Quintanilla walking down Veterans Road alone and injured from two previous altercations with them.
Police said a third attack then occurred and the victim, still alive, was placed in the back of a pickup truck as they drove to an area of McCallen. Gabriel Quintanilla was then thrown into a field, where, according to the police, he might still have been alive at the time. All three suspects fled the scene. What about the allegations of abuse?
For the moment, Harvey did not indicate if the accusations against Quintanilla for the alleged sexual abuse of the 9-year-old girl were being investigated. Nor did he delve into the possible participation of the mother of the Treviño brothers in the abuse of the minor or in the murder of Quintanilla.
“That is still part of the open investigation and it is certainly a question that we had. Why weren’t we notified and that sort of thing? So there are more questions out there and that’s something we’re still looking into,” Harvey explained. Filed Under: Hispanic youth accused of murdering his stepfather.
