Despite his young age, Diego Ramos García is very stubborn, something that he is now going to have to pay dearly for. This resident of Georgia, barely 23 years old, had the bad habit of punishing his girlfriend as if she were his daughter. He beat her for practically any excuse and whenever he felt like it.

On at least three occasions he was imprisoned for domestic violence but he never learned his lesson. It seems that the hours he spent behind bars and the heavy financial penalties he had to pay were not enough to make him understand that a woman cannot be physically abused under any circumstances.

“My boyfriend is beating me”

In February of this year, the 911 emergency system received a call. It was a woman crying. She only managed to say that her boyfriend was hitting her hard at that moment and then the call was disconnected. The operator tried to call her back, but she didn’t answer, so several units from the Canton City Police Department were immediately dispatched.

When the officers arrived at the address in question, they found no one there. A few minutes later, another call came in, this time from a couple of witnesses who reported that a man was dragging a woman by the hair in a nearby parking lot. Police decided to track a cell phone for the victim’s sake

The local authorities then began to trace the cell phone from which the initial emergency call had come, in order to try to get the woman to safety. That was how they found the couple. She was definitely shocked when they found her and Diego was arrested for domestic violence.

In fact, that day, when Diego Ramos García was arrested, he was on parole for a similar incident in 2021. Last week, the accused was seated in the dock and although he pleaded not guilty to the accusations against him, a jury found him guilty so his future was left to the state judge. Judge Walter Matthews sentenced Diego to 10 years, three of which he must spend behind bars and the rest on probation. He is also prohibited from going near the victim or her family in any way, he can’t own a gun, physically assault anyone else or use drugs or alcohol.

“This case is a typical example of how domestic violence escalates. The defendant was free on bail for hitting the same woman earlier. And when she was rescued he said he had done nothing wrong to her, but the initial call, what the witnesses saw and the injuries his wife sustained were enough to get him convicted,” said Assistant District Attorney Rachel Ashe. The woman claimed that she was fine and that nothing had happened

The authorities hope that Diego Ramos García’s conviction will serve as an example for all those individuals who assault their partners. They are aware that at least the cycle of violence suffered by Diego’s now ex-girlfriend has been closed but there are many more victims who suffer in silence.

Diego will be released from prison in 2025 but if he commits the slightest violation of any of the rules imposed by the court, he will have to return to his cell to serve his full sentence. Hopefully with this punishment he has finally understood what he should and should not do to a woman and he will no longer beat his partners.
