As if Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán needed another blow, on December 10, he received the sad news that his mother passed away.
María Consuelo Loera Pérez died at the age of 94 in a hospital in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico. Was an autopsy performed?
She is remembered for asking the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), for help visiting her son in the U.S.

According to El Financiero, El Chapo’s mother suffered from respiratory problems that eventually took her life.
Approximately two years ago she contracted Covid-19, which severely weakened her, especially because of her advanced age.
In addition to El Chapo, she had five more children: Arturo, Miguel Ángel, Aureliano, Armida and Bernarda. They took care of her.
She is also remembered for giving interviews to the media and being very religious. May she rest in peace.
Did she die of natural causes?
According to Milenio, the circumstances surrounding the death of El Chapo’s mother are unknown, but it is believed she died from natural causes.
However, this should not be taken lightly, as it influences whether an autopsy is necessary.
In a natural death, violent acts or any kind of accident are ruled out, which was the case with María Consuelo Loera Pérez.
Also, in these types of deaths, the person’s advanced age plays a significant role.
AMLO once greeted El Chapo’s mother
Andrés Manuel López Obrador was harshly criticized for greeting El Chapo Guzmán’s mother.
On March 29, 2020, in the midst of the Covid pandemic, María Consuelo Loera Pérez handed AMLO a letter.
She was asking the the Mexican President to help her see her son who is serving a sentence in a U.S. prison.
«She has not seen him in five years and does not want to die without seeing him and asks me to help in arrangements for the U.S. government to allow her to travel,» said AMLO.
She wanted to meet the president of Mexico
During his supervision on the Badiraguato-Guadalupe y Calvo road, AMLO was informed that El Chapo Guzmán’s mother wanted to meet him.
Because María Consuelo Loera Pérez was an elderly woman, he decided to meet her.
«She deserves all my respect, regardless of who her son is,» López Obrador said on that occasion, aware of the criticism he would receive.
Unfortunately, María Consuelo passed away without being able to see her son again.
What is known about El Chapo Guzmán’s mother?
María Consuelo Loera Pérez was married to Emilio Guzmán Bustillos.
Most of her life, she lived in the La Tuna community in the Sierra de Badiraguato in the state of Sinaloa.
According to Debate, years before her last encounter with AMLO, she was indirectly connected to him.
In September 2021, she revealed that her son Arturo had been at a family celebration held at a restaurant in Culiacán, Sinaloa.
