Almost three months after the mysterious death of Debanhi Escobar, whose disappearance in Nuevo León, Mexico, shook the whole world for 13 days until she was found dead inside a cistern at the Nueva Castilla Motel, a new chapter was opened in this unsolved case.

According to various sources such as Agencia EFE, Mexican authorities exhumed Debanhi’s body, two months after her burial, in order to perform a third autopsy. Her dad, Don Mario Escobar, was present.

Debanhi has not been able to rest in peace

The 18-year-old girl has not been able to rest in peace and has not received the justice she deserves after her alleged femicide because the authorities did not do their jobs properly. They let time pass and the magnitude of the scandal in the Debanhi case has lost its impact as people stopped paying attention.

In this regard, the 18-year-old girl’s father had a few words for the media that gathered at Debanhi’s grave, which was honored with a mural: «We requested this situation to try to find the truth because I know that Debanhi would have wanted it that way,” said Mr. Escobar.

Why was Debanhi exhumed?

It is already known that two autopsies were carried out on the young woman’s body — one by the authorities of Nuevo León, which showed inconsistencies, and another private one by her family. The objective of exhuming her body is to conduct a third autopsy to collate the results and make comparisons.

What was the cause of Debanhi’s death? So far, the only thing that the Nuevo León Prosecutor’s Office has been able to confirm is that the girl had a deep skull contusion, but they do not specify whether it was apparently due to «the fall» into the cistern or was inflicted by someone who killed her.

Debanhi’s father offered information about the exhumation

When the first opinion of the Nuevo León Prosecutor’s Office came to light, it was said that Debanhi died from a severe deep skull contusion, but the second, private autopsy ordered by the family, specified that the girl’s body had ‘traces of a violent sexual assault’ as well as blows to her face.
