The migrant tragedy in San Antonio, Texas continues to get worse. It all started when the authorities found a trailer with the bodies of more than 50 undocumented immigrants. Since then a lot of new information has come to light. Recently, the mother of the truck driver, Homero Zamoano, spoke about her son.

After the first statements from Homero Zamorano’s wife, his mother’s testimony has come to light. The video where the driver’s mother broke her silence after the tragedy began to circulate on social media.

The commissioner of Migration’s National Institute Francisco Garduño Yáñez reported that the  Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) reported three arrests. Among them is Homero «N», who was identified as the driver of the trailer and who initially pretended to be a survivor, according to El Universal.

It was reported that a team from the FGR and INM are helping in the investigations carried out by the US authorities to identify the network of human traffickers and others responsible for this tragedy. Despierta América posted the testimony given by the mother of the alleged driver of the trailer in which more than 50 migrants died of suffocation. The show shared the clip on their official Instagram account.

According to Homero Zamorano’s mother, she knew that her son had a reputation but never imagined that he would be trafficking people, «He stole for drugs but he never trafficked people, I knew that he stole and scolded him and said to him ‘I’m going to lock you up,’” the driver’s mother shared. Later she shared that her son sometimes called her to say that he had been detained by the authorities, «Sometimes he would talk to me, ‘Look I have a problem…’, ‘Mijito, I didn’t put you in there so you need to take responsibility,'» added Homero Zamorano’s mother during an interview with Univisión.

After reporting on the charges that the driver will be facing for the heinous incident that occurred in San Antonio, Texas, Despierta América stated that Homero Zamorano, after appearing in court, cold face fines of $250,000 plus $5,000 for each victim. Later they shared Zamorano’s mother’s final words, expressing her anger at her son: “If I had him in front of me, I would slap him and say, ‘Why did you do it, why? You’ve never done anything like that.’ But like really hard slap because I always told him, ‘I’ll be short but I’ll jump up and slap you.’”

On Wednesday, Zamorano will have to appear at a detention hearing where it will be determined whether he is entitled to bail after being accused of human trafficking as well as being responsible for the deaths of 53 people inside his truck.
