AMLO confirmed that one of the Mexican workers has been rescued and is in stable condition, while two others remain missing.

«We are very sorry for the situation. The report we have is that there are three Mexicans, one was rescued and came out alive, injured but stable and safe,» said AMLO.

Out of respect for the privacy of the families, the president did not reveal additional details about the names or locations of the missing.

«We have the information, but we will not reveal it because the relatives asked us to handle the matter with discretion,» he added.

A state of emergency in Baltimore

The tragedy occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, March 26, when the bridge, the largest in Baltimore, collapsed after being hit by a cargo ship.

This triggered a state of emergency in the area, with rescue teams working hard to find the missing workers.

According to James Wallace, Baltimore Fire Chief, two people were rescued from the water, one of them without apparent injuries and the other taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they are providing assistance to affected Mexicans through their diplomatic corps in Baltimore and Washington.

President López Obrador took advantage of the occasion to recognize the fundamental work carried out by Mexican and Central American migrants in the United States.

He pointed out that they often do jobs that are considered high risk, like what was being done on the Francis Scott Key bridge.

He emphasized the importance of treating these workers with respect and dignity, rejecting any form of discrimination or stigmatization.

«This shows that migrants are going to do work at midnight, very risky, and that is why they do not deserve to be treated as is often the case with some irresponsible and insensitive politicians in the United States,» he said.
