Actor Gary Sinise made a painful announcement this week.

The Forrest Gump star released a statement sharing that his son McCanna Sinise has died.

McCanna had been battling a rare type of cancer since 2018.

The Sinise family is going through a period of unfathomable grief after their son’s brave fight against a rare type of cancer.

Unfortunately, the award-winning actor reported that 33-year-old McCanna ‘Mac’ Anthony Sinise has died.

«Mac lost his battle with cancer. He died on January 5, 2024 at 3:25pm, and was laid to rest on January 23rd,» the statement reads.

The tragedy has shaken not only the actor’s family, but also his many fans and the film community in general.

In the statement Gary shared through his foundation, where Mac also worked, he highlighted the harsh reality of his son’s illness.

«Like any family experiencing such a loss, we are heartbroken and have been managing as best we can,» Sinise wrote.

Also, the actor said he empathizes with those who have gone through similar battles with cancer.

«As parents, it is so difficult losing a child. My heart goes out to all who have suffered a similar loss, and to anyone who has lost a loved one,» he continued.

Sinise, known for his iconic role in the film Forrest Gump and his commitment to various charities, now faces the most difficult challenge of his life — coping with the loss of his son.

«We’ve all experienced it in some way…. It’s heartbreaking, and it’s just damn hard… Our family’s cancer fight lasted for 5 ½ years, and it became more and more challenging as time went on,» he added.

He shared the last photos of his son and highlighted that Mac faced the disease with courage.

«While our hearts ache at missing him, we are comforted in knowing that Mac is no longer struggling.»

The statement describes the young man’s battle against a rare type of cancer, detailing the physical and emotional challenges he faced during this period.

«He fought an uphill battle against a cancer that has no cure, but he never quit trying,» his father highlighted in the statement posted on his foundation’s website.

«I am so blessed, fortunate, and proud to be his dad,» wrote the Golden Globe winner.

He also highlighted how despite the illness, Mac never gave up on his passion forr music.

Although the statement focused on McCanna’s dreams of a music career, Gary also touched on how they found out about the disease.

«The summer of 2018 was a particularly challenging time for our family. In June of that year, my wife Moira was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer,” he noted.

Shortly afterward, McCanna was diagnosed with a rare, incurable form of cancer.

«Then, on August 8th, we found out that Mac was diagnosed with a very rare cancer called Chordoma. Chordoma is a one in a million cancer,» he said in the heartbreaking statement.
