Carlos Fernández, 12, was shot to death in his home in Houston, Texas while he slept.

The city woke up on the morning of Monday, March 3, 2024 to the tragic news.

So far Harris County authorities still do not know who the shooter was or the motive for this brutal crime.

Many people in the area where Carlos Fernández died are demanding justice and that those responsible for the crime be arrested.

According to the police report, consulted by MundoNow, at 3:00 in the morning someone called 911 to report a shooting.

Several patrol cars responded to the Crossing At Alderson housing complex at 13921 Alderson Street, in the Cloverleaf neighborhood of Houston.

Officers from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) entered one of the apartments.

Carlos Fernández had been shot inside the apartment and police called the paramedics.

However, when emergency personnel arrived at the home they could not revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from the HCSO Homicide Division then began investigating the brutal shooting.

HCSO detectives now know that Carlos Fernández slept in a bedroom with his six- and seven-year-old sisters.

In another room, Carlos Fernández’s mother was asleep with an adult man who, presumably, was not the children’s father.

During the night, several shots rang out, entering through the apartment windows.

One of those shots killed Carlos Fernández. The shooting was so intense that by a miracle no one else inside the apartment was injured.

HCSO Homicide Division detectives have evidence that at least one person was shooting from a vehicle in front of the apartment.

Authorities do not believe the shooting was random

Detectives now know that the vehicle stopped right in front of that apartment so they do not believe the shooting was random.

Investigators from the HCSO Homicide Division are still in the Cloverleaf neighborhood collecting videos in the area of ​​the shooting.

Several witnesses residing in the area have already spoken with the authorities to offer their version of events following the death of Carlos Fernández.

So far, the shooter’s relationship with Carlos Fernández and his family has not been revealed by authorities.

Harris County Sheriff Ed González himself went to the scene of the shooting to coordinate the investigation.

Ramona Zambrano, from El Salvador, lives a couple of blocks from the place where the attack occurred.

The 42-year-old went to the scene to find out if the family needed support.

Zambrano, along with other local residents, asked the HCSO to identify and arrest Carlos Fernández’s murderer.
