One of the first personalities to react to Omar Marchant’s passing was Don Francisco.

The man who hosted Sábado Gigante for more than five decades shared a heartfelt message on social media.

«A great visionary, pioneer of Spanish radio and television in the United States, and above all an extraordinary human being,» he said.

Don Francisco offered his condolences, as well as an affectionate hug to Marchant’s family, especially his wife: «Rest in peace, dear friend.»

Who was Oscar Marchant?

At Premios Lo Nuestro, Omar Marchant’s legacy was remembered.

Venezuelan singer-songwriter Ricardo Montaner gave a heartfelt speech.

«Thirty-six years ago, you gave me the opportunity at Premios Lo Nuestro to sing ‘Tan Enamorado’ for the first time in the United States.»

Between 1972 and 1994, he was vice president and director of promotions and special events at Univision.

He also worked at Univision’s rival network Telemundo, leaving an indelible mark on Latin culture in the U.S.
