Mexico defeated the United States for the second time in history, 2-0 on Monday, February 26 in the CONCACAF W Gold Cup.
The Mexican team, which did not play in last year’s World Cup, finished as the leader of Group A, while the U.S. team finished second. Both teams advanced.
The scorers in this match were Mayra Pelayo and Lizbeth Ovalle, also known as ‘The Magician.’

According to The Associated Press, Lizbeth Ovalle put Mexico ahead in the 28th minute with a goal reminiscent of Giovani dos Santos, also against the U.S.

Who is Lizbeth Ovalle?
Lizbeth Jacqueline Ovalle Muñoz was born in Aguascalientes on October 19, 1999, so she is currently 24 years old.
This outstanding footballer, also known as ‘The Magician’ or ‘Jackie,’ plays as a midfielder.
Today, she is a member of Club Tigres Femenil, a team she joined in 2017 and with whom she has won numerous titles.
On her team she wears the number 14 on her jersey, on the Mexican National Team she wears number 11.
She makes her country proud
Just last year, Lizbeth Ovalle was part of the Mexican National Team that won the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Chile.
In both 2018 and 2016, she played in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and U-17 Women’s World Cup, respectively.
In 2016, she played in four matches, scoring two goals, while in 2018 she only played in three, but scored four goals.
In that same year, 2018, she competed in the Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship. Mexico became champion and she scored a goal.
