  • The US resumes deportation flights to Venezuela.
  • 100 migrants were on board the first flight.
  • Biden made an agreement with Maduro.

It has been confirmed that deportation flights to Venezuela from the United States resumed on Wednesday, October 18.

The first plane to land in Venezuela this week had 100 migrants on board, according to reports.

This is in response to the growing challenges posed by the number of asylum seekers in the United States.

The willingness to accept these migrants represents a significant concession by Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro.

The US government has been in conflict with the regime of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro for years.

The first flight, a Boeing 737, took off from Harlingen, Texas, and made a stop in Miami before landing in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.

On board, there were approximately 130 passengers, made up of Venezuelan men and women, according to The Associated Press.

According to reports, the people were taken to the plane in buses and were handcuffed and wearing ankle bracelets.

On top of that, they were not exempt from scrutiny by US immigration officials.

US authorities plan to carry out «multiple» deportation flights a week to Venezuela.

This demonstrates an important change in immigration policies, according to a waiver issued by the US Department of Transportation.

This places the country among the main destinations for deportations by United States immigration authorities.

The first flight took place after the Venezuelan government and the opposition agreed to work together to establish electoral conditions.

This resulted in the suspension of some sanctions imposed by the US on Venezuela’s oil, gas and gold mining sectors.

It occurred hours after the aircraft landed at the Maiquetía airport, according to the AP

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro commented on the issue in a televised speech.

In his speech, he highlighted the importance of the agreements reached between the Venezuelan authorities and the United States government.

He also mentioned the conditions that will affect the 2024 presidential elections in the country.

Venezuelan state television broadcast images of the migrants getting off the plane, equipped with masks.

They underwent health checks and answered questions from agents at the airport near Caracas.

Maduro’s government has attributed the emigration of Venezuelans in part to economic sanctions, The Associated Press said.

Corey Price indicated that this is the first deportation flight of Venezuelan migrants that he has seen in his career and that more are planned.

He is the acting deputy executive director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

These flights primarily target newly arrived migrants and those who have committed crimes in the United States.

Border Patrol Director Jason Owens reported that the passengers had entered illegally, crossing the southern border.

The situation in Venezuela continues to be critical, with complex social, political and economic crises that have affected the country.

Furthermore, the drop in oil prices and poor government management have led the region into a downward spiral.

Wanting to address the problem, the US government recently announced that Venezuelan immigrants can apply for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), according to the AP.
