Rapper French Montana, who is originally from Morocco, announced an emergency fund to help Morocco after the devastating earthquake.

The earthquake has claimed nearly 3,000 lives, according to EFE.

He announced the fund during the MTV Video Music Awards.

Montana, who emigrated to the United States as a teenager, also presented an award.

«Before announcing the nominees, I want to spread some love and light to Morocco they’ve been hit with a big earthquake.”

«I’m setting up an emergency fund with Global Citizen.org/Morocco. and I will be donating myself,» he said, followed by applause from the crowd.

Donations will go to CARE, an NGO on the ground that’s helping victims.

The MTV Video Music Awards returned on Tuesday night.

For the first time, only women were nominated in the Artist of the Year category, according to The Associated Press.

Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, Karol G and Shakira were all nominated for the top prize.

On Tuesday morning, the VMAs announced their final round of presenters, including A Boogie Wit da Hoodie and Anuel AA.
