The brutal murder of 15-year-old Joshua Saldívar occurred at a party where least a hundred young people were gathered. He was the only fatality.

What was the motive behind the brutal murder of Joshua Saldívar?

According to the crime report, consulted by MundoNow, in the early hours of Sunday, August 20, 2023, a shooting was reported in Tulsa.

Several officers were dispatched to a house in the 2000 block of W. Archer, in the eastern Tulsa metropolitan area, to respond to the call.

The officers found Joshua Saldívar badly wounded and lying on the street in the middle of a chaotic scene with teenagers running everywhere.

One of the officers from the Tulsa Police Department (TPD) established that the boy was already dead when they arrived.

Another teen was badly injured at the party

The TPD officer requested the urgent presence of paramedics from the Tulsa Fire Department (TFD) to help another boy.

A second boy, 16 years old, had been shot in the arm and was badly wounded so TFD paramedics took him to a hospital in the area.

Detectives from the TPD Homicide Division took up the investigation after Joshua Saldívar’s death was confirmed.

Initially, officers determined that a party was being held in one of the houses on that block where dozens of teenagers had gathered.

Police ask for help from the Hispanic community

Most of the more than one hundred young people at the party were teens between the ages of 15 and 19. It is not known if adults were supervising the gathering.

Around five minutes before 1:00 a.m., two girls got into a brutal fistfight for an unknown reason.

While the two girls were hitting each other, another teen took out a gun and started shooting. One of the shots hit Joshua Saldívar.

María Guadalupe Hernández, Joshua Saldívar’s mother, spoke to local media about her son’s murder.

«I encourage parents to look after their children and be careful of their friendships because life can change in an instant,» said Guadalupe Hernández, in Spanish, to News On 6.

Joshua Saldívar’s family described the boy as someone who always lit up a room with his presence and that he was peaceful and very happy.

«He was a very helpful, kind boy and he loved to dance»

Blanca Mendoza started a GoFundMe campaign, on behalf of Joshua Saldívar’s family, to request financial support from the community.

«The Saldivar Hernandez family has received one of the strongest blows, our little Joshua has left us and we need your help to cover his funeral expenses,» Mendoza wrote.

“He was a very helpful, kind boy and he loved to dance. He unfortunately lost his life at the hands of criminals, however, in our hearts he will always remain» recalls Blanca Mendoza.

«We have no words to express our pain, but we know that Joshua is already with the Lord,» she concluded in the Joshua Saldivar Hernandez campaign.
