According to Milenio, the Catholic Church supports the story of the mantle of the Virgin of Guadalupe, found in a Nahuatl document from 1556 called Nican Mopohua.

It is attributed to the indigenous noble Antonio Valeriano.

It is said that between December 9 and 12, 1531, the Virgin appeared four times to Juan Diego, asking him to build a temple in her honor on the outskirts of Tepeyac Hill.

The apparition occurred in Cuatitlán, Mexico.

The Virgin’s last appearance was on December 12

Furthermore, the Nican Mopohua says that Juan Diego witnessed the last appearance of the Virgin of Guadalupe on December 12.

At that moment, the indigenous man was looking for someone to help his sick uncle.

He encountered the Virgin of Guadalupe, who told him that his uncle was no longer ill.

Later, she asked Juan Diego to climb to the top of Tepeyac Hill to gather roses to take to the bishop.

Juan Diego followed her instructions, and reached Friar Juan Zumárraga, who had no idea what to expect.

After Juan Diego dropped the roses on his mantle, the bishop was surprised.

He saw the image of the Virgin revealed.

It is said that the pilgrimages in her honor began the same year as her appearance. The Vatican even approved this story.

The mantle has miraculous qualities

According to Expreso, the mantle of the Virgin of Guadalupe has miraculous qualities.

Primarily, it was made of cactus fibers, making it of very low quality with a rough surface.

For this reason, it was challenging to decorate, especially to paint an image that would endure over time.

Nevertheless, the image remains intact. Scientists claim that no known technique was used to prepare the surface.

It is indestructible

Finally, Expreso states that the mantle of the Virgin of Guadalupe is practically indestructible.

In 1785, a worker accidentally spilled nitric acid solvent over a large portion of the image, leading to fears that it would be destroyed.

Thirty days later, it magically reappeared and remains intact to this day, except for some small stains that do not mar the image at all.

Also, in 1921, it was attacked, and although there was damage around it, its image and the glass remained untouched. Was it a miracle?
