FATAL TRAIN DERAILMENT IN MISSOURI. On Monday, a fatal Amtrak train accident occurred in Missouri. According to initial reports, an Amtrak train ended up derailing after hitting a dump truck. The train was carrying around 243 passengers.

The people who were injured have already been transported to local hospitals where reports on their health status are pending. At the moment, the authorities are at the scene of the accident and some of the victims have been helped by the community.

On Monday, a train that left Los Angeles, heading toward Chicago, crashed into a dump truck on the tracks. Around 243 passengers were traveling on board the train that derailed, and rescuers quickly arrived to help. At least three fatalities have been reported so far.

One of the deceased was the truck driver and the other two were in the Amtrak train cars, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, which has not ruled out more victims. At the time of the accident, women, men and children had to escape through the windows of the train and avoid stepping on the broken glass in the compartments.

Through a press release, Amtrak reported on the accident that occurred in Missouri. In the statement, they pointed out that the train was traveling to Chicago, when a truck obstructed an uncontrolled crossing and caused eight cars and two locomotives to derail.

“On June 27 at 12:42 p.m. CT, Southwest Chief Train 4, traveling eastbound on BNSF track from Los Angeles to Chicago, 8 cars and 2 locomotives derailed after striking a truck that was obstructing a public crossing near Mendon, Missouri. There were approximately 275 passengers and 12 crew members onboard,» Amtrak reported.

In the statement released by Amtrak, they specify that the local authorities are taking charge of the situation that occurred on Monday afternoon. Likewise, they pointed out that aid is being deployed by the Incident Response team and they are aware of the needs of passengers, employees and families.

“Local authorities responded to the scene to provide assistance and care for our customers and employees. Our Incident Response Team has been activated, and we have deployed emergency personnel to the scene to help support our passengers, our employees and their families with their needs. Individuals with questions about their friends and family who were traveling aboard this train should call 800-523-9101,» the press release stated.

Local media have stated that there are multiple injuries after the train accident. At the moment, it is unknown how many people were affected by the incident and if their injuries are serious. Amtrak is closely monitoring the incident.

«The University Hospital is receiving three patients from the derailment, including one by helicopter,» said a spokesperson for MU Health Care, according to ABC 17 News. At this time, the authorities are monitoring the affected area and some of the passengers have reported on social media that they received support from the communities near the incident. Governor Mike Parson stated on social media that he was «saddened» about the recent incident. In the brief, he stated that emergency management personnel were responding to the crash site and asked Missourians to pray for those affected.

“We are saddened to hear of the Amtrak train derailment in Chariton County this afternoon. @MoPublicSafety, @MSHP troopers and other emergency management personnel are responding.
