Couples could pocket up to $1,261 a month this year. This scenario is very different for a single person because the amount is $841. An essential person could get up to $421. The difference is determined by the income and taxes generated by people who are eligible for this program. This year, there was a considerable increase.

“Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for approximately 70 million Americans will increase 5.9 percent in 2022,” the Social Security Administration announced on its official website. The SSA announced this increase starting on January 1 of this year and that sparked hope. Filed Under: Social Security Check

People who benefit from SSI are adults and children with a disability that makes it difficult for them to earn any income. The SSA page offers more information about the program requirements.

“The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program pays monthly benefits to adults and children who are disabled or blind and have an income and resources below the allowed financial limits.” Announces the Supplemental Security Income page. Filed Under: Social Security Check

Although its primary purpose is to help people with a disability, SSI has also benefited people age 65 and older who are not disabled but are financially eligible. The SSA has more information on their website.

“SSI payments were also paid to people age 65 and older who do not have a disability but meet the financial requirements,” the SSA explains in its section about the Supplemental Security Income program, which urges people who are eligible to apply.

Different amounts?

Isn't that the same amount?

The SSA website explains that not every applicant receives the same amount of money. There are different factors that determine whether one person receives more cash than another. One of those factors is whether the person lives in a state that adds more money to the federal SSI payment. If it decreases, it is applied so that people who have a partner can pay their household expenses.

“Not everyone gets the same amount. You may receive more if you live in a state that adds money to the federal SSI payment. You may get less if you have other income, such as wages, pensions, or Social Security benefits. You can also receive less if someone pays your household expenses or if you live with a spouse and he or she has an income.»

Also, there is another aspect to take into account and that is the payment that is made in the first three months. When an eligible person receives their first check, the two subsequent checks are likely to be for the same amount. This could happen to many as the months go by and it’s known as «non-recurring income.» It doesn’t happen in all cases, but it is important to take it into account.

“The amount of your first, second, and third monthly payments is based on your first month’s earnings. Sometimes some type of income received in the first month is not received the second month. This is known as «non-recurring income.» When this happens, the SSI benefit amount for the second and third months is based on the considered income for the first month, minus the non-recurring income.”
