The culture of muscle cars in the United States is adapting to the new world of electric vehicles.

However, high-powered beasts with gasoline engines will continue to exist for some more years.

Dodge unveiled on Tuesday, March 5, two Charger muscle cars powered by batteries.

On the other hand, both muscle cars will be built on the global large vehicle platform of Stellantis, as reported by AP.

And the Windsor, Ontario plant, which will manufacture them, will be able to alternate between gasoline and electric engines according to consumer demand.

Flexibility will allow Stellantis to cover its back if electric vehicle sales take off or lose momentum.

In 2023, Stellantis stopped producing Charger and Challenger vehicles with gasoline engines, and many thought that would be the beginning of the end.

Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis said there were signs that a gasoline version would survive.

«It has always been there, it has always been in the plan. It would always return,» said Kuniskis.

The company downplayed the gasoline version and introduced electric models of 2 and 4 doors that resemble Charger models from the 60s.

It could be said that muscle cars in 2024 are more alive than ever.

Electric versions will have two motors

On the other hand, electric versions of muscle cars will have two engines, one with 670 horsepower.

They will also have the ability to go from 0 to 97 kilometers per hour (60 miles per hour) in 3.3 seconds.

The other engine is not far behind, with 496 horsepower and the ability to go from 0 to 97 km/h (60 mph) in 4.7 seconds.

Dodge claims that the high-performance electric version is the fastest and most powerful muscle car in the world. In 2025, they will launch another one with even more power.

What other advantages do these muscle cars offer?

The Charger Daytona with 496 horsepower is expected to have a range of 510 kilometers (317 miles) per battery charge.

While the high-performance version will be able to travel 418 kilometers (260 miles).

Both muscle cars will have the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, an exhaust system that sends air through a chamber.

This simulates the sound that a vehicle with a V8 engine would make.

The new gasoline-powered Charger Sixpack will have a similar appearance to the electric versions.

Moreover, it will be powered by a new three-liter six-cylinder engine with two turbochargers.

Standard versions will offer 420 horsepower, while the high-performance engine will have 550 horsepower.
