On Tuesday, February 13 a car crashed into the emergency room at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center in Texas.

One person was killed and at least five others were injured, local authorities reported.

The incident took place shortly after 5:30 p.m. (local time), when the vehicle crashed into the lobby, in what is believed to be an accident.

According to the Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services, there was one fatality and multiple injuries.

Austin police Lt. Carey Chaudoir confirmed the tragic death resulting from the tragic situation in Texas.

Police reported that, so far, everything indicates that the crash was accidental, however the investigation is ongoing.

Chaos broke out at the scene, and some of the injured were transported to different hospitals in the area.

An adult was receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the scene after the car crashed into the emergency room lobby.

Two children and one adult were transported to Dell Children’s Medical Center, according to the Austin-Travis County EMS.

Authorities also reported that one adult and one child suffered potentially critical, life-threatening injuries, while the others had non-life-threatening injuries.

Despite the magnitude of the impact, authorities have assured the community that this incident does not appear to be an intentional act, easing fears of a possible terrorist attack.

The driver died at the scene and police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash.

According to preliminary information provided by the Austin Police Department, there is no threat to the general public.

Still, authorities are not ruling anything out, though everything indicates that it was an tragic isolated incident.

The Austin Fire Department hazmat task force was on the scene, as well as the Austin Police Department.

There were eight ambulances, four commanders, one designated medical officer, three medical directors, two personal assistants, three community health paramedics and two division chiefs at the scene, according to KVUE.

Authorities have confirmed to the media that there is no threat to the public.

They stated that a transportation corridor was being created and that crews will need additional space for vehicles and devices to move.

Governor Abbott responds to the accident

The public has been asked to avoid the area. Governor Greg Abbott pledged the state’s support in a statement on social media Tuesday night.

«I’ve spoken with Mayor Watson about the tragic accident at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center & offered Texas’ full support,» the governor tweeted.

«State personnel are working closely with local officials to ensure Austin has no unmet needs,» he added.
