On a day that should have been the happiest of their lives, a Colombian couple had an unforgettable experience.

The couple were identified Jesica Avilés and Santiago Restrepo, according to El Diario de Yucatán.

The event was being held in the picturesque municipality of Chinú, Córdoba and it ended in the most surprising way.

The wedding went viral on social media when the bride had second thoughts in the middle of the ceremony.

After she said no, shocking everyone present, she revealed the surprising reason that had to do with the groom’s father.

The ceremony was in full swing, with the justice of the peace reading the wedding vows, when the unimaginable happened.

The bride looked radiant in a beautiful white dress while the groom, smiling nervously, waited for her to say «I do.»

The bride had second thoughts at the last minute

The guests, breathlessly watched the couple’s emotional union as they exchanged vows.

However, just when the justice of the peace was about to ask them to pledge their love, Jesica Avilés made a surprising move that left everyone speechless.

“In your sane and sound mind, is it your desire to contract a civil marriage through the notarial procedure with Santiago Restrepo Vega?” the justice of the peace asked.

An uncomfortable silence fell over the space and firmly but in a voice filled with emotion, the bride said she didn’t want to go through with the marriage.

The groom’s father wasn’t happy

«I don’t know, because there were problems today,» the bride said, looking around and causing commotion among her guests.

Immediately afterwards, there was applause. “Ready! Perfect! It’s the best thing that could happen,” a man’s voice could be heard in the background.

The bride explained: “His father does not agree with this. Santiago lied to me. He told me that his father was super happy, that his father had paid for the wedding.”

“He lets himself be bossed around by his father, so I don’t want to get married. How he treated my daughters when I arrived…! First my children, I told you. If I had known this, I wouldn’t have come,” she said as the groom removed her ring.

The guests, and even Santiago himself, were left speechless as Jesica continued her explanation. However, the groom’s family celebrated her decision.

According to El Diario de Yucatán, the bride realized that the groom’s family (especially her future father-in-law) did not share her enthusiasm for the relationship.

Once the ceremony was canceled and the video of the dramatic event went viral on social media, one of Jesica’s close friends decided to ask for help to cover the expenses they had already incurred.
