Horrific crash on Staten Island claims the lives of three teens. Three teenagers who were traveling in a Ford Mustang died in a terrible accident that caused their vehicle to split in half on Sunday, July 10, according to authorities.

The young victims, two girls ages 15 and 16 and a 15-year-old boy, were in the car heading west on Hylan Boulevard when they collided with an eastbound SUV attempting to make a left onto Richard Avenue at approximately 8:45 p.m. local time, the New York police detailed, according to the New York Post.

The 16-year-old girl and the boy were pronounced dead at the scene of the tragedy. Police said the other 15-year-old girl was taken to Staten Island North University Hospital, where she later died. The driver of the red Ford Mustang, another 16-year-old boy, was hospitalized in critical condition, the Post reported.

The sole occupant of the black GMC Yukon pickup was the driver, who suffered no life-threatening injuries, sources told the New York Post. It was not immediately clear what caused the deadly crash on Staten Island, which was being investigated by the New York Police Department’s Collision Investigation Squad.

Photos from the crash site show the wrecked Ford Mustang, which was split in half, the Post and The Sun reported. According to the New York firefighters, six people were taken to the hospital, but they didn’t provide further details.

ABC7 noted that New York Mayor Eric Adams visited the site of the collision during the night, while the investigation was carried out. He, in turn, stated that four people were traveling in the SUV, but they are all expected to survive. He also pointed out that there is no doubt that speed was a determining factor in the incident.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released, nor was a possible cause of the crash reported as of early Monday. Driving laws in New York state that anyone holding a junior learner’s permit, which would apply to drivers under the age of 17, must be accompanied by a guardian or driving instructor between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., explained NBC NY.

In a similar tragedy that occurred days ago, three people lost their lives and six others were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle collision in Los Angeles, California, according to FOX LA. Fire crews responded to the scene in Winnetka shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, after receiving reports of a car accident involving three cars.
