  • Profe Claudio Nieto discusses 10 important hormones in the human body.
  • This is a synthesis of the function each one performs.
  • It’s essential to remember that the more you know about your body, the better you can take care of it.

The human body is huge: parts, inner organs, stuff inside, etc. While all has a main job, today we will talk about ten key hormones and a little about what they do in us.

First, let’s look at insulin. Insulin helps controls sugar in the blood.

It does two things: when storing, it moves food and energy to the muscles to grow; when letting go, it makes the body save fat when sugar storage is full.

Simple uses: Eating fewer carbs can help lose fat, especially in people who don’t react well to insulin. To build muscle, you need good insulin, so eating carbs the right way is important.

Leptin and Ghrelin

Leptin is a chemical that tells the brain how much fat we have. When we have more fat, leptin goes up, and the other way around. But if the body stops listening to leptin, losing fat gets hard.

Simple uses: Eating carbs now and then can help the body listen to leptin. Not eating too little is also important for good leptin.

Ghrelin is a chemical from the stomach that makes us hungry before meals and less hungry after. It also makes fat gather in the belly.

Simple uses: To control ghrelin, it’s important to have a good sleep pattern and not eat too little.

Thyroid Hormones and Adiponectin

Adiponectin is linked to less fat and living longer. It helps burn fat.

Simple uses: Being cold can make more adiponectin, helping burn fat. Going outside when it’s cold can be good.

Problems with thyroid chemicals can make metabolism slow and bring health issues.

Simple uses: Not eating too little and having carbs after exercise can help keep metabolism good. Keeping the liver healthy is also key because it changes one thyroid chemical to another.

Prolactin and Testosterone

Prolactin rises during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but an excess can inhibit the production of other hormones, leading to health issues.

Practical applications: Regulating eating and exercise patterns and ensuring proper rest are key strategies to keep prolactin under control.

Testosterone is the quintessential male sex hormone and plays a role in muscle gain and fat burning.

Practical applications: Avoiding high aromatase levels and maintaining a low-fat percentage are essential for keeping healthy testosterone levels.

Progesterone, Estrogen, and Cortisol

These chemicals need to be balanced in women to keep them healthy.

Simple uses: Not eating super low-fat and having good fats is important for a woman’s chemical balance.

Cortisol is an important hormone for dealing with stress, but too much stress can be bad. Simple uses: Avoiding bad stress and learning to calm down is key for good cortisol.

Profe Claudio Nieto reminds you that these are just brief insights into each hormone and how they influence the human body. Each one plays a unique role, and their balance is essential for health and fat loss.
