At the very edge between life and death, there exists a mysterious territory that has baffled science and fascinated humanity since time immemorial.
These are near-death experiences (also known as NDEs). Have you heard about them or experienced one?
If the answer is no, these stories of individuals who were brought back from the brink of death will amaze you.
These compelling stories from people who have been brought back to life continue to emerge, challenging scientific explanations and fanning the flames of mystery.
What are near-death experiences?
NDEs are commonly described as subjective experiences that occur during a situation where the individual is on the brink of death.
Often, these experiences include the perception of intense light, reviewing one’s own life, encounters with spiritual beings or the feeling of absolute peace.
One of the most shocking stories comes from Emily Turner, a 34-year-old woman who suffered cardiac arrest during emergency surgery.
As her heart stopped beating, Emily claims to have experienced a floating sensation and witnessed a sequence of events in her life in rapid succession.
‘My life flashed before my eyes’
«It was as if my life flashed before my eyes, but in a beautiful and serene way. I saw moments that I had forgotten and others that I had never appreciated,” says Emily.
These stories raise questions about the nature of time and perception during these experiences.
Another common aspect of NDEs is encounters with spiritual beings or unknown figures.
These encounters defy scientific explanation and raise questions about the existence of alternative dimensions or spiritual entities.
Divided opinions
Despite the many tales of near-death experiences, science remains divided regarding how to interpret them.
For those who have experienced an NDE, it often has a profound and transformative impact on their lives.
According to the Daily Mail, Pastor Gerald Johnson, 49, of Texas, said Rihanna’s hit song ‘Umbrella’ resonated as he passed the gates of hell.
About his strange trip to purgatory, Johnson said: «It just blew me away, it still baffles me to this day.»
Music, tunnels and death
«While up here, you can listen to music to get over a breakup like ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’ or ‘Umbrella,'» the pastor said.
«[B]ut down there every lyric to every song is to torment you,» he continued.
On the other hand, Kevin Curtis, 50, was rushed to the hospital after being stung by bees several times on the face and neck.
Mr Curtis, now 71, was suffering from anaphylaxis and was unconscious but “aware of my surroundings.”
Science in search of answers
During the ambulance ride to the hospital, Curtis, of Lincolnville, Maine, remembers seeing a bright light. The grandfather-of-two said he could hear paramedics saying he would likely die.
Curtis, a retired financial information architect, described the sensation as “zooming up from some dark, cool area” and back to reality.
Science seeks answers within the confines of the measurable and the demonstrable, while near-death experiences transcend the limits of the tangible.
Do you think they are mere illusions created by the brain in moments of crisis, or do they represent a glimpse into reality beyond life as we known it?
