She was incredibly famous in Mexico in the seventies and eighties for starring in ficheras films.

Considered one of the biggest sex symbols of her day, Sasha Montenegro was born on January 20, 1946 in Bari, Italy. She had just turned 78 years old.

She was the daughter of Yugoslav immigrants, Zivojin Aćimović and Silvia Popović. The family moved to Argentina, where her father died.

Years later, her mother married an important Argentine businessman. The family lived in Mendoza and later in Buenos Aires.

Montenegro had two brothers: Andrea Silvia and Claudio Ricardo. At age 23, she traveled to Mexico for a job offer in the movies.

She never went back to Argentina

According to Proceso, Sasha Montenegro never returned to Argentina, since she had a very successful career in Mexico.

First, she worked as a fotonovelas actress and model and later moved on to film. She was a stunning beauty.

Some of the films she starred in include: Playa Prohibida, Muñecas de Media Noche, Pedro Navaja and Bellas de Noche.

After more than ten years out of the spotlight, she returned to the cinema to act in the films Una de Zombies (2003) and El Final del Silencio (2006).

Sasha Montenegro’s controversial marriage to José López Portillo

Everyone was shocked when, at the peak of her career, Sasha Montenegro began a relationship with José López Portillo, who was 26 years her senior.

This former president of Mexico divorced his wife and mother of his children, Carmen Romano, in 1991. He married the beautiful actress four years later.

They had two children, Nabila and Alexander.

The former president’s family disapproved of the marriage until his death on February 17, 2004.

Sasha Montenegro’s secrets

Despite being born in Italy and living her childhood and adolescence in Argentina, Sasha Montenegro considered herself Mexican.

On June 28, 1989, she became a Mexican citizen with the help of José López Portillo.

Mexican media reported in July 2022 that the actress received a pension of almost $100,000 a year.

This was something former presidents received until it was ended on 2022.

According to Proceso, Sasha Montenegro’s cause of death was a stroke, though she had been battling lung cancer for many years.

El Financiero reported that actress had been in very bad health shortly before her death.

After retiring from acting, she dedicated herself to taking care of her children and her work as a businesswoman, mainly in real estate.

Her last appearance on television was on Televisa’s Hoy in 2018. She spent her final years in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico.
