On Friday, September 15, it was announced that Chapo Guzmán’s son had been transferred from the Altiplano prison.

Ovidio Guzmán López, known as ‘El Ratón’, was moved from detention in preparation for his extradition to the United States.

Reports indicate that the prison’s director facilitated the handover of Guzmán to Interpol agents, who then transported him by helicopter.

This extradition represents a significant step in the international battle against drug trafficking, highlighting the collaboration between Mexican and US authorities.

According to EFE, Guzmán arrived in the United States on September 15, as confirmed by the country’s Justice Department.

«This action is the latest step in the Department of Justice’s effort to target all aspects of these operations,» said US Attorney General Merrick Garland.

It’s worth noting that the FGR had an arrest warrant for the purpose of extraditing the well-known capo, Ovidio Guzmán.

On April 15, Ken Salazar, US ambassador to Mexico, announced that efforts to extradite Guzmán to the US were ongoing.

Ovidio Guzmán, 32 years old, had been detained in the Almoloya prison in the State of Mexico since January 5.

The son of the notorious boss was one of Washington’s most wanted drug traffickers.

Following the decision to extradite Guzmán, it is believed that the intention is to subject him to the justice system of the US.

The US has formalized accusations against the drug trafficker, presenting 11 distinct charges that encompass a broad range of crimes.

According to ABC News, the extradition of Guzmán represents a significant advancement in international efforts to combat high-level criminal networks.

This initiative aims to diminish the effects of drug trafficking and its implications on public health and safety.

It’s noteworthy that thousands died amid conflicts within the Sinaloa Cartel and even amongst military personnel following the apprehension of Chapo’s son in Culiacán.

Consequently, in 2019, the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, ordered the release of Guzmán López to «avoid further bloodshed.»
