The stroke left Amaechi Muonagor partially paralyzed in his left leg and facing an even tougher battle for his health, according to the BBC.

Muonagor pled for help getting a kidney transplant on social media.

He was seeking financial support to undergo the procedufre that could have prolonged his life and his legacy on the big screen.

A video, which went viral earlier this month, showed the actor lying in bed, visibly weakened, with bandages on his chest and struggling to articulate words.

In the video, a fellow actor joined Muonagor, explaining in a broken voice the urgency of raising funds for the vital medical procedure that the veteran performer so desperately needed.

However, despite the efforts and solidarity that his request generated in the film community and among his fans, destiny had other plans.

The news of his passing comes at a time of continued mourning for Nigeria, which is still reeling from the loss of another Nollywood star.

John Okafor, better known as Mr Ibu, who also struggled with health problems, died recently.

In that movie he played the role of the father of two charismatic young men, which catapulted him to fame and earned him the love and respect of millions of viewers across the continent.
