One of them was portrayed by Mexican actor Humberto Espinosa Magaña on the children’s program Odisea Burbujas.

Unfortunately, he passed away on Friday, March 15 — but what was El Ecoloco’s cause of death?

The National Actors Association confirmed the death of Humberto Espinosa Magaña on social media.

Several celebrities, including Arturo Vázquez and Ricardo Silva, offered their condolences upon learning of this news.

In addition to portraying El Ecoloco, Magaña worked in various film and theater productions, as well as radio dramas and voice work.

However, his character on Odisea Burbujas was the one that brought him the most fame and recognition. Rest in peace.

Dirt, garbage and smog…

Odisea Burbujas aired from July 22, 1979, to October 7, 1984.

The series, which had its origins in radio, follows the adventures of Professor A.G. Memelovsky and some of his ‘creations.’

They are Patas Verdes, Mimoso Ratón, Mafafa Musguito and Pistachón Zig-Zag, who immediately captivated children and adults alike.

However, the character that would end up stealing the show was El Ecoloco, a villain whose goal was to pollute the environment.

What you didn’t know about El Ecoloco…

To this day, many do not know that El Ecoloco had a proper name, and that was Rododendro Peluche.

Despite having a warlock-like appearance, he did not cast spells or perform any magic. His main assistant was a friendly cockroach.

His number one enemy was Professor Memelovsky, who along with his ‘creations,’ thwarted all his plans. El Ecoloco hated water and soap.

He is described as very childish, in addition to being lazy, selfish and temperamental. As a child he was friends with Memelovsky.

What was El Ecoloco’s cause of death?

After Humberto Espinosa’s death was announced, his son Francisco Espinosa who shared more details.

In an interview with Ventaneando, he said that in the last six months, El Ecoloco’s health had declined due to his advanced age: 94 years old.

Moreover, years ago he was diagnosed with senile dementia, although he did not have any other illness.

«More than 50 years in acting, the last six months with a constant health deterioration, there was no particular illness,» he said.

Saying goodbye to a legend

According to TV Notas, El Ecoloco is survived by his widow and four children.

Silvia Jaeger Cordero, better known as Silvia Roche, the creator of Odisea Burbujas, sent a funeral wreath to the actor.

It is said that his character made such an impact that when someone was dirty, they were referred to as El Ecoloco.
