The Catholic chapel, made of stone, is one of the most important historical complexes in the area. Its name is attributed to the former Spanish religious soldier Ignacio de Loyola. It was built by the Jesuits, who established a community in Tamazula, according to Infobae.

This church is famous not only for the religious activities that take place there, but also for the alleged donations from the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel. The site contains architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries, hidden among the traces of the most dangerous drug traffickers: Joaquín «El Chapo» Guzmán and Rafael Caro Quintero.

Some families related to drug trafficking, such as El Chapo and Caro Quintero, made financial donations to its reconstruction. One of the proofs of these donations can be found in the wooden benches located inside the church of San Ignacio de Loyola in Durango.

Inscriptions of the donors were placed on these pieces of furniture in the chapel. Among them we can find the names of the Coronel Aispuros — El Chapo’s wife, Emma Coronel’s family. Ávila Beltrán and Joaquín Guzmán Loera also appear. In addition, journalist Rodrigo Vera explained that you can read inscriptions of its benefactors on the benches. One of them has the name of Sandra Ávila Beltrán, known in the underworld as «La Reina del Pacífico» (The Queen of the Pacific), according to Distritt.

According to Father Aguilar, deputy director of radio and television for the archbishopric of Mexico, only donations to churches that are greater than 10,000 pesos must include a name and surname. That’s why this church has the names of some bosses from the drug trafficking world on their benches.

“When you receive a donation, we don’t ask who gave it to us, except for what is imposed by the law that dictates that donations above 10,000 pesos must have a name and surname,” the religious man told Guatevision, referring to why the names of these drug traffickers appear in the chapel.

Regarding the donation of Joaquín, El Chapo, Guzmán, it is believed that he helped rebuild this church due to his devotion to religion, instilled from childhood by his mother Consuelo Loera.

A clear example of this is the chapel of the Apostolic Church of the Faith in Christ Jesus, which El Chapo built in La Tuna so that his mother could have a place to pray. In addition to adding all the comforts necessary for his mother to profess her faith and pray for him.
