In the wake of the entertainment industry’s mourning over the loss of Rosita Pelayo, social media has erupted with severe criticism against actor Alberto Estrella.

The backlash stems from a public dispute regarding a refund of money that the late actress had requested from Estrella to cover her cancer treatment costs.

In August, Pelayo disclosed her diagnosis and the prohibitive cost of her treatment, which she couldn’t afford. She appealed to Alberto Estrella and Patricia Villafuerte for the reimbursement of an investment.

In an interview with the ‘Ventaneando’ program, the actress disclosed her attempts to reach out to her partners at Círculo Teatral for the early sale of their shares and investments, citing financial urgency.

However, she encountered difficulties in communicating with Alberto Estrella, as per her account.

Pelayo’s revelations made a significant impact. Despite later clarifying that her agreement was primarily with Patricia Villafuerte, Estrella responded with his perspective on the same program.

He emphasized that Pelayo was not a formal member of Círculo Teatral but had merely invested in the cafeteria associated with the project.

Alberto Estrella faces criticism

The actor explained that Pelayo had been receiving monthly interest on her investment and that the contract was set to conclude in 2024, at which time the principal amount would be returned.

However, in light of Pelayo’s circumstances, an agreement was reached to expedite the refund. Estrella indicated that he did not have direct control over this process.

Rosita Pelayo disclosed that her investment exceeded one and a half million pesos and stressed the urgency of its recovery as her health continued to decline.

Despite bringing the issue to public attention, she did not confirm whether she had received the refund. On December 14, she was urgently hospitalized and, tragically, passed away two days later.

In response to the urgent need for funds to cover her medical expenses, several figures in the Mexican entertainment industry initiated fundraising campaigns for the actress.

Key participants included actresses Sylvia Pasquel, Laura Zapata, and producer Laura Sánchez. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, they were unable to prevent the tragic outcome.

Following Pelayo’s passing, a surge of criticism targeted Alberto Estrella on social media. Many pointed out that it remained unclear whether the actress ever received the refund she requested.

This added to the controversy surrounding this sad episode.

Users on X’s social network (formerly known as Twitter) expressed strong criticism against actor Alberto Estrella in light of his recent dispute with the now-deceased actress, Rosita Pelayo.

Comments such as ‘It’s sad that they become obsessed with deals and businesses’ and ‘This unfortunate man took Rosita’s savings, deceiving her into thinking it was an investment,’ were prevalent.

Another user remarked, ‘They partnered, but never saw any profits. He has explained this to her. However, there’s always a high risk in business investments. It’s either a loss or a win. IN THIS CASE, IT WAS A LOSS.’

Estrella used his Facebook account to pay tribute to the late actress. While some followers joined him in offering condolences, others seized the opportunity to bring up the controversy.

He says farewell and they attack him

Alberto Estrella, on behalf of El Círculo Teatral community, expressed his condolences, writing, «We join in prayer with those who knew, shared experiences with, and learned from Rosita Pelayo.»

His message concluded with, «We wish peace for her soul and strength for her loved ones,» shared through his Facebook account.

Reacting to this, one commenter wrote, «Now that she has passed, they ask for her peace. They should have supported her while she was alive, brother, IN LIFE!»
