Mauricio Feres Yazbek was one of the most beloved actors in the history of Mexican film.

Better known as Mauricio Garcés, this comedian is remembered for playing charming heartthrobs in several of his films.

However, in real life, he was quite different to the characters he portrayed on screen. It was even rumored that he was gay, as he never married.

On February 27, 1989, he passed away at the age of 62, due to a heart attack caused by pulmonary emphysema.

It was also said that the El Cuerpazo del Delito star had a romance with Mexican-Spanish actor Enrique Rambal.

In 1971, Rambal died of a heart attack and it was claimed that he passed away in the bed where Mauricio used to sleep.

Furthermore, Enrique’s wife, Lucy Gallardo, was present at this moment. Garcés’ brother Edmundo, denied the romance.

«Mauricio was adorable. ‘Mivi,’ Mauricio. He called us all ‘Mivi.’ He was adored,» the actress said, acknowledging that he «didn’t pay attention to me.»

Finally, she was asked if she knew whether Mauricio Garcés was gay or not. She responded, «I have no idea… All the signs, but I’m not sure.»

According to México es Cultura, the film Modisto de Señoras centers on aspects of the main character, Maurice’s, life.

Portrayed by Mauricio Garcés, this successful fashion designer seduces married women while pretending to be gay to avoid raising their husband’s suspicions.

It’s worth noting that the actor was one of the first to play a gay (ish) character in Mexican movies.

Despite some initial fears, the public loved the movie and its main character.
