The skies darkened in broad daylight as a total solar eclipse traversed North America on Monday, April 8.

Those fortunate enough to witness this cosmic spectacle under clear skies were astonished.

Eclipse mania spread across Mexico, the U.S., and Canada as the moon positioned itself between the Earth and the sun.

Practically all North American residents were guaranteed at least a partial view of the eclipse, weather permitting.

It was the most watched eclipse in North American history

About 200 million people live under the path of the eclipse or near it, not counting the crowds that traveled to get a better view.

Clouds covered much of Texas as the total solar eclipse began its diagonal journey over land.

It started on the Mexican Pacific coasts, which were practically clear, and moved through Texas and another 14 states in the U.S.

It exited through the North Atlantic near Labrador, Canada.

A short distance east of Dallas, hundreds of people gathered in downtown Mesquite.

People applauded and whistled as clouds parted just minutes before the eclipse reached its totality phase.

As the sun was finally covered, the ovation grew louder, and those present removed their protective glasses.

Thus, they witnessed the unforgettable sight of the sun’s corona, and Venus shining brightly amidst the darkness.
