A grandmother dies after falling from the roof while trying to view the solar eclipse that plunged Mexico into darkness on April 8.

The tragic accident happened in the coastal city of Mazatlán, Sinaloa.

According to local media reports, the woman, identified as 80-year-old Librada «N», went with her family to the roof of her residence to get a better view of the eclipse.

Unfortunately, the 80-year-old woman died after falling from the roof of her house while viewing the total solar eclipse that attracted thousands of visitors from all over the world to Mazatlán.

This included NASA researchers and scientists who broadcast the event, according to Azteca.

Tragically, in the midst of the excitement of witnessing the eclipse, the elderly woman slipped and fell to the ground from a considerable height.

Her distraught relatives immediately took her to the Imstituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS).

Authorities are investigating the freak accident

The woman died due to the severity of her injuries approximately an hour and a half after her admission to the hospital.

The family, devastated by the loss, has called for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

The State Attorney General’s Office is conducting the investigation to determine any possible responsibility in the incident.

This unfortunate incident has shocked the community and serves as a reminder of the risks involved in watching astronomical events.

Doctors couldn’t save her

Despite desperate efforts by family members and the rapid intervention of the Red Cross, attempts to save Librada «N» were in vain.

Paramedics fought tirelessly to stabilize her while they transferred her to the hospital, according to El Imparcial.

The injuries she sustained in the fall proved too serious.

She received immediate medical attention and thorough testing.

The doctors and nursing staff deployed all their resources and knowledge in an effort to save her.

However, despite her dedication and professionalism, Librada N succumbed to her injuries approximately an hour and a half after admission.

The loss of this beloved grandmother leaves an indelible void in the community.

This has raised concerns about risks of looking directly at the sun.

Cases of eye problems have been documented after previous eclipses, underscoring the importance of following safety precautions.

It should be remembered that looking directly at the sun through a camera, binoculars or telescope without a solar filter causes serious and instant eye damage, according to the NASA.
