According to Entertainment Weekly, Natalie Morales will portray Dr. Monica Beltran, a pediatric surgeon.
Thanks to her pragmatism and sensibility, she is considered one of the best in her field.
«Her willingness to push boundaries can be admirable and aggravating, but it’s always aimed at providing top-quality care to her patients,» according to the press release.
Finally, it was reported that the queer actress will be a guest on the series, although she could become a recurring character.
Natalie Morales’ impressive acting career
Of Cuban descent, Natalie Morales was born on February 15, 1985, in Kendall, Florida. She recently turned 39 years old.
She attended St. Agatha Catholic School as a child and later went ot Southwest High School.
She participated in the Dow Jones Minority High School Journalism Workshop at the University of Miami.
In 2006, she made her acting debut as a guest star on CSI Miami, and that same year, she appeared in Pimp My Ride, the video game version of the MTV series.
Her career began to take off
It didn’t take long for Natalie Morales’ name to become more well-known. In 2008, she portrayed Wendy Watson in the series The Middleman.
More series followed, including White Collar, Parks and Recreation, and Santa Clarita Diet, among others.
In 2010, she was cast in the film Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, directed by Oliver Stone.
Recently, she appeared in two films: No Hard Feelings, alongside Jennifer Lawrence, and Self Reliance, a suspenseful comedy.
She played the first bisexual lead in a network series
Natalie Morales starred in the television series Abby’s in 2019.
She has been very open about her attraction to both men and women and she personally identifies as queer.
«I’m also the first bisexual lead on a network. Not just me as a person, but the character is bisexual,» she said in an interview with Paste magazine.
She’s also the first Cuban person to lead a network show.
Natalie Morales on coming out
According to Cubalite, Natalie Morales wrote an essay for Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls where she discussed coming out as queer.
In the essay she wrote, «I am not attracted specifically to any type of gender. I’m attracted to people.»
«What queer means to me is just simply that I’m not straight. That’s all.»
«It’s not scary, even though that word used to be really, really scary to me,» Natalie Morales shared.
