On September 8, the highly anticipated LGBTQ+ film Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe was released in the United States.

According to Cine Premiere, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe is set in El Paso, Texas, in 1987.

The story revolves around two Mexican-American teenagers named Aristotle ‘Ari’ Mendoza and Dante Quintana.

Their struggles with racial and ethnic identity, along with their relationships with their families, strengthen their friendship over time.

The film depicts the emotional journey to self-discovery that both characters experience.

The director of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe spoke to Variety.

Calling it a dream come true is too simple. «This has been the journey of a lifetime,» said Aitch Alberto.

The transgender director and screenwriter couldn’t wait to share this «piece of my heart» with the world.

«I can only hope audiences of all kinds see themselves in the film and that it ignites feelings of hope and empathy,» she added.

An impressive cast share the screen with Max Pelayo and Reese Gonzales in Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe.

Mexican actor and comedian Eugenio Derbez portrays Jaime Mendoza.

Actress Eva Longoria, who made her directorial debut last year with Flamin’ Hot, played the role of Soledad Quintana.

The film also features Verónica Falcón (Liliana Mendoza), Isabella Gómez (Gina Navarro), Luna Blaise (Ileana Téllez) and Kevin Alejandro (Sam Quintana).

Even before its official release, the film had received rave reviews from critics.

«Aristotle and Dante asks heavy existential questions of its audience about life, identity, loyalty, righteousness and how those principles connect to Mexican culture,» wrote Valerie Complex of Deadline.

Raven Brunner tweeted that the film is «an incredible feat» and compared it to The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Lastly, Angie Han from The Hollywood Reporter highlights the connection between the protagonists of this story.

Before the U.S. premiere not many people had seen the movie, but they were captivated by the trailer.

Cinemex’s YouTube channel showcases the previews of this eagerly awaited LGBTQ+ film.

«Loved the book and love this trailer. It looks like the movie will be quite faithful. Another movie to look forward to with excitement,» commented an internet user.
