Fred C. Trump III, nephew of former President Donald Trump, has revealed in an excerpt from his upcoming memoir that his uncle told him that disabled Americans, including his own son, “should just die.”
The book “All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way,” out July 30, promises to offer a scathing account of the former president, according to excerpts published by TIME magazine and The Guardian.
In the excerpts, Fred C. Trump III reveals that his son William was diagnosed with infantile spasms, a rare disorder that affects his physical and cognitive development.
This diagnosis motivated Fred and his wife to advocate for better education, investment and research to help people with disabilities.
Trump’s nephew breaks silence on disabled people
During his uncle’s tenure in the White House, Fred reached out to his cousin Ivanka, who was an adviser to his father at the time.
Ivanka helped Fred secure a meeting with members of the Trump administration to discuss the challenges facing people with disabilities.
Fred recounted spending 45 minutes in the Oval Office with his uncle, health advocates and doctors, talking about these challenges.
After the meeting, then-President Trump requested to speak with Fred privately.
That’s when Trump allegedly made the insensitive comment about the disabled, according to Fred.
«Those people», he claims that his uncle said, “Given the situation they are in, all the expenses, maybe those kinds of people should just die.”
This is not the first time the former president has been criticized for making insensitive statements about people with disabilities.
During his 2015 presidential campaign, Trump mocked a journalist, who has a physical disability that affects the movement of his joints.
Trump faced criticism for imitating the journalist’s physical tremor, but claimed he was actually criticizing the reporter’s journalism, not his disability.
Fred C. Trump III says his uncle never showed any real interest in improving the living conditions of people with disabilities.
The book also presents other accusations, including the use of racial slurs by the former president, according to the website USA Today.
These revelations promise to generate controversy and debate around the figure of former president Donald Trump.
