Governor Henry McMaster has declared a state of emergency in South Carolina as wildfires continue to rage across the state, consuming over 1,200 acres and threatening to spread to an additional 3,000 acres.
Currently, more than 175 wildfires are active across South Carolina, impacting counties such as Horry, Spartanburg, Union, Oconee, and Pickens.
The state of emergency declaration aims to bolster the response efforts and ensure that first responders have the necessary resources to combat the fires.
«This state of emergency ensures that our first responders, who work tirelessly and risk their lives to protect our communities, have the resources they need,» said Governor McMaster.

Authorities have ordered evacuations in multiple areas, including Spring Lake, Waterford, and Avalon neighborhoods near Myrtle Beach, where weather conditions and fire spread pose significant risks.
Darryl Jones, Chief of Forest Protection for the South Carolina Forestry Commission, warned that the fires are severely testing firefighters’ capacity.
Particularly in the Pee Dee region, which is experiencing the highest wildfire activity.
Burn Bans and Public Warnings

A statewide burning ban is in effect.
Due to the ongoing crisis, authorities have imposed a total ban on outdoor burning across the state until further notice.
Violators of this restriction may face legal consequences.
Driving Warning: Officials have also urged motorists traveling through the Carolina Forest area to exercise extreme caution, as thick smoke is reducing visibility, particularly at night.
