- The 2023-2024 football season has begun.
- Highlighted matchups this weekend.
The 2023-2024 NFL season kicks off with the matchup between the New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers.
Certainly, among the most enticing matchups this weekend are New Orleans vs. Green Bay and Pittsburgh vs. Las Vegas.
Once again, Monday Night Football features two games: Philadelphia vs. Tampa Bay and Rams vs. Cincinnati.
As part of the celebrations for Hispanic Heritage Month, we present five Hispanic NFL players.
Tom Brady’s successor?
First, we introduce Matt Corral, a 24-year-old from Ventura, California, with Mexican heritage.
He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round last year. It seemed like he would be the team’s starting quarterback.
However, the Panthers cut him after losing the competition to become the backup quarterback.
Now, he is part of the New England Patriots, the team that Tom Brady led to the pinnacle of the NFL.
Hispanic NFL players: Isiah ‘Pop’ Pacheco
In the last Super Bowl, the last name of one player caught the attention of many casual NFL fans: Pacheco.
Meet Isiah ‘Pop’ Pacheco, a running back for the Kansas City Chiefs and a crucial part of his team’s victory.
Born in Vineland, New Jersey, in the United States, but of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent, this player is only 24 years old.
Few know that his older brother was stabbed and killed in an apartment complex in 2016. His sister was also killed later.
Chris Olave has Mexican Roots
Next, we have Chris Olave, a 23-year-old wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints, who celebrated his birthday in June.
In fact, Chris is the only Hispanic player chosen in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. A significant achievement for the Latino community.
Just a couple of days ago, he made an impressive catch to secure a victory for his team against the Carolina Panthers. It seems like a good omen for him.
Moreover, he holds the school record for the most career touchdown receptions with 35 at Ohio State.
Another Mexican NFL player
At the age of 29, who had a birthday on September 8, Rigoberto Sánchez is the ‘Mexican heart’ of the Indianapolis Colts.
This young player was born in Chico, California, the same place where quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who will miss the entire season due to an injury, was born.
‘Rigo’ is one of the few cases where, after playing college football in Hawaii, an NFL team signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2017.
It’s worth noting that he missed the entire last season due to an Achilles tendon tear, so he’s eager for redemption.
Hispanic NFL players: Malcolm Rodríguez
To wrap up this overview of Hispanic NFL players, we introduce Malcolm Rodríguez, also of Mexican heritage.
According to La Voz de Klamath, this linebacker quickly impressed the Detroit Lions, his current team.
In his rookie year, he played in 16 games, starting 15 of them. He missed only one game. Not bad for a rookie.
Finally, this season, Malcolm is expected to be a standout in the Lions’ defense, and who knows, perhaps in the entire league.
