Local media, including El Universo, reported that the 34-year-old was the victim of an alleged extortion plot, according to a person close to him.

Jonathan Sánchez was killed driving through the Ecuadorian city of Esmeraldas with another man.

He never imagined that the trip through the streets of José Joaquín de Olmedo and José Mejía, part of the Roberto Luis Cervantes playground, would end in tragedy.

According to the outlet, witnesses described what happened at the scene.

According to El Universo, witnesses said that individuals on two motorcycles had blocked the comedian’s path.

They fired their weapons at Jonathan Sánchez, hitting various parts of his body.

He was shot four times: in the left arm, biceps, thorax and left forearm.

Some of the shots entered the vehicle through the driver’s side and others through the passenger side.

Jonathan Sánchez was not alone in the car

The outlet indicated that Sánchez died inside the vehicle due to the severity of his injuries.

Sánchez was driving home from work when he was attacked by the men on motorcycles.

It was reported that the person in the comedian’s car was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Security at the comedian’s wake

El Universo reported that the funeral services for ‘La Polilla’, Jonathan Sánchez, began on Thursday, October 12.

The presence of security and personnel were notable at the ceremony.

Many came to mourn the comedian and influencer, who has more than 400,000 followers on TikTok.

According to El Universo, he was transferred to the Tolita 2 citadel in Ecuador for security reasons, after the location where his wake was meant be held became public.
