Almost three years after the death of basketball legend Kobe Bryant, who lost his life in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, along with his daughter Gianna Bryant and seven other passengers, there are still questions as to whether the bodies found included that of the MVP of the NBA. According to BBC, on January 26, 2020, the control tower tried to reach the N72EX helicopter, in which Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter and seven other people were traveling, but they received no response. “N72EX what are your intentions?” the controller asked, followed by silence. “N72EX, you are still at a very low altitude so you can continue the flight…” he continued. But seconds later, the Sikorsky S-76B crashed in a remote area near Calabasas, California.

Given the shocking news of the accident, authorities and rescuers worked hard to identify the exact location of the nine people in the helicopter, hoping to find a survivor.

As the hours passed and the hope of  finding survivors faded, some photos of parts of the helicopter began to be shared by various media, illustrating the magnitude and seriousness of the accident.

A tragic outcome

A video on CNN en Español showed the scene of the wreckage, where pieces of the aircraft were scattered in the accident area. In the video you can see tires, part of the helicopter engine and some other parts burned in the explosion.

On the other hand, a Youtube video provided by Rated Random Vids started to go viral on social media. They claim to show the exact moment when rescuers recover the remains of the famous Lakers player. Opening the possibility that there are indeed photos of Kobe Bryant’s body.

In the alleged images you can see the rescue team in the area moving with what appears to be a stretcher. People speculate in the comments that due to the size of the remains it could be Gianna, or some parts of the rest of the crew.

What authorities say about the accident

According to BBC, the first official conclusions were offered by the authorities a year later. They reveal that those final minutes were decisive in the tragedy. According to the report, the helicopter pilot apparently became disoriented in the fog.

Once disoriented, the pilot apparently did not use, understand or trust the aircraft’s instruments, to the point that he believed he was emerging from a dense cloud when in fact he was descending, authorities said. «This maneuver is consistent with the pilot experiencing spatial disorientation in limited visibility conditions,» said Robert Sumwalt, chairman of the US National Transportation Safety Board.
