Prosecutors reported that on January 3, 2024, police were called to Halverson’s residence to conduct a welfare check and found her corpse near farming equipment.
The investigation revealed that on December 27, 2023, Thran had visited her mother with her children, when both got involved in an argument that turned violent.
Halverson suffered 14 blows to the back of the head during the altercation.
According to local media WBNG-TV, the dispute between mother and daughter had a history related to a rental property in Lacona, New York.

Ariela Thran allegedly received income from the property, while Halverson wanted to take control of the management and profits, which might have heightened tensions between them.
During the trial, Thran’s defense argued that the victim was not murdered but had died after being knocked down and trampled by horses.
However, prosecutors described the case as «particularly challenging,» as no murder weapon was found during the investigation.
Despite the lack of a crime weapon, the jury determined Ariela Thran’s guilt based on the evidence presented. Now, the accused awaits sentencing that will define her future in prison.
