  • Residents of dozens of US states are set to receive direct payments.
  • In view of rising inflation, state governments have decided to create relief programs.
  • States like Illinois temporarily suspended taxes on groceries and gasoline.

After the federal government issued stimulus checks to most Americans during the height of the Covid pandemic, it is less and less likely that this type of federal aid will be repeated despite the fact that people are now dealing with inflation that is higher than we’ve seen in years.

Given that there will be no federal aid in the near future, the governments of dozens of US states have decided to create programs that provide help to their residents, either through direct payments or temporary tax relief, to combat inflation, according to Business Insider.

Also, the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, signed a relief package that includes the suspension of the state tax on sales of diesel as well as help for rent and utility bills.

In California, more than half of residents are eligible for a check for up to $1,050. Single filers with at least one dependent will receive an additional $350 if they earn less than $75,000, $250 if they earn between $75,001 and $125,000 a year, or $200 if they earn between $125,001 and $250,000 a year.
