This Monday, March 8, in the morning hours, his son confirmed the unfortunate news: Cepillín had died.

The last photo of the artist dates from last Friday, March 5, when he was hospitalized. He arrived at the medical center due to a fall that caused severe back pain, but days later he was diagnosed with cancer and, after being operated on, his health deteriorated rapidly.

«God willing and soon I recovered #FuerzaCepillin», said the text that accompanied the image in the Facebook account of Cepillín. You could hardly see him lying in that hospital bed surrounded by all those devices and medicines that could not save his life.

A few hours after his death, the first images of his funeral emerge. The family wanted to do a job open to the public and even invited them through social networks: “1946-2021 El payasito de todos (The little clown on TV) has just passed away. It will be held at Funerarias Gayosso de Mundo E starting at 5:00 pm. Anyone who wishes to join us is welcome. We are all going to fire Cepillín ”.

Although hundreds of followers regret his departure, Ricardo González “Cepillín” took death with ease, according to his son Ricardo Jr.

«He said that you are not going to heaven, that heaven is here, maybe it’s like in another perspective,» he said outside the funeral home.

«The truth is we wanted to give him peace and that is what we did and after ten minutes he left, they tried and he did not return,» he added about the painful moment in which his father died.

Cepillín marked the childhood of many children and, without a doubt, his death caused a great impact.

«It is an honor to say that I am alive,» said Ricardo González «Cepillín» on the other side of the receiver, laughing.

For a few days he disappeared with his wife to rest and get rid of stress. Not out of fear, but to live, which was what he liked.

On the day of the call with EL UNIVERSAL he greeted as always. With a good morning and thanks for taking it into account to speak.

His first idea, without asking him, was to talk precisely about the coronavirus. He regretted that at first people did not take the bug seriously, which increased infections. Today, he said, he could go to a hospital for a routine check-up and he had to wear a mask.

By the end of that month, his TikTok account reached 1 million followers. He was grateful for having entered a new form of communication promoted by his children, proving to be in force after more than 50 years of career.

«It has helped to have less seriousness in what we are experiencing worldwide, to distract us now, that we do not have live presentations,» he reflected.

And suddenly, the serious words: «he’s bastard.»

«I did not throw away my fortune»

Both were not free, because the interpreter of the melancholic «A day without a mother», the cheerful «Let’s go to school» and the tragic «Pinocchio» was about to run out of money. And he had in mind to go to the Monte de Piedad to pawn things and get some cash.

15 years ago he had done the same, but in Nuevo León. That time a lady approached him and asked how it was possible that he, who surely had a lot of money to appear on television and sell several records, was there.

«I did not throw away my fortune, nor did I squander it, neither on alcohol, nor on other things,» he recalled to EL UNIVERSAL, anticipating the question.

He sent his parents on a trip wherever they wanted and he gave his children a house as an inheritance. He and his wife had two residences.

Good times and without being Maluma

For more than 20 minutes and whenever he could, “Cepillín” described those he had as wonderful children. Thanks to them he was still in the middle and because he liked to entertain people. His word «paique», synonymous with «chido», was in common use in the late 70’s and early 80’s by the children who followed him.

It was a time, he assured, in which in each house there was a record of his character. It was enough to listen to some of his songs to glimpse part of the life of a former dentist, before a comedian.

In «Once Upon a Time», his voice gives life to a grandfather who tells his grandson the story of a doctor who treated teeth dressed as a clown and who one day realized it made children laugh if he replicated musical instruments with his voice.

«I was a great seller, now, what a pity that I am not Maluma,» he expressed, resuming his good humor and referring to the financial resources he needed to complete his next album.

In 2016, “Cepillín” already knew that the day he died, he would be due to a heart attack. He had just suffered from heart failure and the doctors, seeing his weakness, had forbidden him only to eat salt.

And he joked, like almost always when talking to someone.

“(A heart attack) It is a beautiful death, I have died twice and I feel nothing. They say that you can see a tunnel, that there is a light, that there is music, that you even see your relatives, but I think that is for people who have wool, the scrubs are going to black ”, he laughed.
