More tax rebates announced in several US states

Residents of several US states will receive almost $1,000 in tax rebates relief. More than 260,000 people will be eligible and officials say that these payments started going out on July 1 as a way to help offset rising inflation, according to The Sun.

But like all types of aid, not everyone will be eligible, so read on to find out if you are one of the lucky ones. You could receive up to $975, at a time when several state governments are seeking to provide financial support to their residents in this second half of the year.

HOW DO THE TAX REBATES WORK?

In Pennsylvania, eligible homeowners and renters can get direct payments through the state’s Property/Income Tax Refund Program, which was created to help homeowners, renters and people with major disabilities who paid rent or property taxes during 2021.

Officials have already stated that the payments started going out on July 1, but, if you are one of those who think you may benefit, you should know that you can apply for the program until December 31, 2022. WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

«If you know a friend or family member who may be eligible, encourage them to verify their eligibility status and submit an application to our agency before the deadline,» Revenue Secretary Dan Hassell told Fox 43. «We want Pennsylvanians to know there’s still time to apply for property tax and rent refunds in 2021.»

They added that tax rebates will only be sent to residents who meet the requirements and the payments will be sent through mail or direct deposit. Refund claimants have the ability to choose how they would like to receive their relief money by filling out the Property/Rent Tax Refund Program online application. HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?

For this process, the state revenue department has prepared a tool for applicants to check the status of their request. Residents must submit their social security number, year of claim and date of birth. “It’s free to apply for a refund, and applicants are reminded that free assistance is available at hundreds of locations across the state,” Hassell said.
