«Your music and legacy will always live in our hearts,» concluded the statement posted on her social media.

Paquita la del Barrio, whose real name was Francisca Viveros Barradas, left an indelible mark on ranchera music.

One of her most iconic songs, Rata de Dos Patas, became an anthem of heartbreak and empowerment.

The song was inspired by a betrayal the singer suffered during her marriage to Alfonso Martínez.

Paquita revealed that after 25 years together, she discovered that her husband had been unfaithful for 15 years with another woman.

Although they separated, they continued living under the same roof until Martínez’s death in 2000.

The pain of that experience led her to channel her emotions into her music, solidifying her as an icon of heartbreak songs.

However, the true origin of Rata de Dos Patas tells another story.

The songwriter Manuel Eduardo Toscano revealed that he wrote the song with a former Mexican president in mind.

In a 2019 interview, he stated that his inspiration was Carlos Salinas de Gortari, who governed Mexico from 1988 to 1994.

Despite this, the song perfectly resonated with Paquita’s personal experience, and her powerful interpretation made it unforgettable.

Paquita la del Barrio’s legacy will live on in the history of ranchera music and in the hearts of her fans.
