Ariel Bowling’s Evacuation and Memories of the Victims
Ariel Bowling was evacuated shortly after 14-year-old Colt Gray opened fire, killing four people.
The victims were identified as Mason Schermerhorn, Christian Angulo, Christina Irimie, and Richard Aspinwall.
Bowling remembered Aspinwall, her math teacher, as a «kind-hearted man.»
She was on her way to the vending machine when she heard the gunshots.
«We ran back to the room and huddled in a corner,» Ariel Bowling recounted.
The student called her mother in the midst of the chaos but hung up to contact authorities.
«I heard five shots, and then the phone went silent,» her mother explained.
Bowling described the devastating scene as she exited the building after being evacuated.
«I saw a body covered on the ground and a woman shot in the leg,» she said.
Nine people were injured and transported to hospitals, according to authorities.
The shooting was reported at 10:23 a.m., and the suspect surrendered to police.
Colt Gray has been charged with murder and will appear in court on Friday.
The FBI had known about Gray for a year due to previous threats against the school.
